One strategy I rarely see mentioned, but that works incredibly well, is offering free tools or calculators tailored to your niche, i run a small finance blog and built a “Student Loan Repayment Estimator” using nothing more than basic PHP. It’s not even pretty, just functional, but it has been linked by bloggers, educational sites, and even Reddit threads.
Why it works:
- Solves a problem
- Doesn’t ask for anything in return
- Gets shared in forums and newsletters
Another overlooked tactic is local partnerships, ionce partnered with a coworking space to do a “Top Freelancers in Munich” roundup, each person listed linked back to my post and shared it on social media, the backlinks weren’t from giant sites, but they were all genuine, local, and relevant.
If you think creatively and offer something of real value, you don’t have to beg for backlinks, they start coming naturally.
